Roots Biopack is an innovative packaging manufacturer of compostable packaging materials (in conformity with the EN-13432 standard). This packaging is not only biologically degradable and recyclable, but also fully compostable. Roots Biopack’s products are made from residual products derived from the sugar industry. This raw material is renewable and made from waste. The fact that Roots Biopack uses waste materials distinguishes them from producers who use paper for bio-packaging (which will result in deforestation).

For Roots Biopack’s customer, pizzeria chain Da Portare Via, in Amsterdam, Studio STOUT developed a fully biodegradable and compostable pizza plate. A great Cradle to Cradle (C2C) development.
This in itself is an innovation but the unique feature of this concept is that 2 plates can be clicked together to form a pizza box for take-away or delivery. The box can be tossed in the green recycle bin and will have disappeared within a matter of weeks!
